Washington Wellness Worksite
A Washington Wellness Worksite is a worksite that has met a set of criteria to establish a healthy work culture. The criteria are a group of standards developed for state organizations that, when performed together, increase the likelihood for improved workforce health and productivity.
Healthy Worksite Initiative Evaluation: Final Report
The University of Washington produced this report of the Healthy Worksite Initiative, a legislative-funded project in seven Washington State agencies that tested a model for comprehensive, rapid, and sustainable organizational change to improve employee health and productivity and ultimately reduce the rising cost trend of health care. The report documents improvements in health behaviors/conditions (cholesterol, diabetes risk factors, absenteeism, physical activity, diet/nutrition and depression) that occurred during the course of the initiative. The Healthy Worksite Initiative produced the model for the Washington Wellness Worksite designation program.
Wellness at My Worksite
While Washington Wellness works to establish statewide healthy vending machine options, healthy catering choices, the Fitness Club Discount Program, and programs such as Weight Watchers at Work, every state agency and higher education institution has its own wellness coordinator, its own wellness initiatives and activities, and its own health culture. Washington Wellness encourages wellness coordinators to develop comprehensive wellness programs that take into account the specifics of their organization’s population and culture, and change not only individual behavior, but organizational behavior. Many agencies and higher education institutions sponsor activities that support employees in lowering their health risks, but also work to make healthier choices easier at all level of the institution.
